Stabilized Fording Sites
Since crop and pasture lands often straddle watercourses, providing safe crossings for livestock and equipment with reduced potential for negative water quality effects is critical. Additionally, watering livestock at rivers is often the only practical option for agricultural producers. The KWRC has used stable fording sites as both watering locations for livestock as well as crossings for farm equipment. The approaches are properly aligned and hardened, and the stream bottom is stabilized with hard rock to prevent erosion and rutting. Since 1994 the KWRC has installed 85 stabilized fording sites in the watershed.

Water Quality Monitoring
Water quality monitoring is an important tool that we use to keep track of where problem areas are within the watershed. It is also important to gather baseline data so that we know what conditions exist currently and then we strive to maintain those baseline levels. This is important as industrial and urban landscapes change within the watershed.
We have a number of sites where we have established historical data and when needed we add new sites to our monitoring program. The KWRC has more than 40 water quality sampling sites established throughout the years. We have also established numerous temperature profile locations and 5 flow and discharge analysis stations with more on the way.
Our water quality samples are analyzed for 38 different parameters and are discussed in an annual report. Our available reports can be found here. Keep in mind that most of our reports are presented a year behind as we require time to compile data and have our partners approve public presentation of the data. Further to this monitoring the KWRC also performs snow pack monitoring and flood watch activities which are organized by the KWRC in cooperation with the New Brunswick Department of Environment and Local Government. These parameters provide local communities with a flood monitoring tool that might otherwise be absent.
